Cushing syndrome

What is Cushing Syndrome?

Cushing Syndrome is a rare condition that happens when your body makes too much of a hormone called cortisol. Cortisol is a hormone that helps your body respond to stress. When there is too much cortisol in your body, it can cause a lot of different symptoms.

Diagnosing Cushing Syndrome

If you have Cushing Syndrome, your doctor will ask you about your symptoms and do some tests. They may check your blood and urine to see if there is too much cortisol. They might also do a special test called an ACTH stimulation test to find out if your body is making too much cortisol.

Treating Cushing Syndrome

Treating Cushing Syndrome depends on what is causing it. If you are taking medicine that is causing the syndrome, your doctor may change your medication. If a tumor is causing the syndrome, you may need surgery to remove it. Sometimes, medication can be given to lower the amount of cortisol in your body.

Preventing Cushing Syndrome

There are no specific ways to prevent Cushing Syndrome, but there are some things you can do to stay healthy. It's important to take your medications as prescribed by your doctor and to follow their instructions. If you notice any symptoms of Cushing Syndrome, it's important to talk to your doctor right away. They can help diagnose and treat the condition before it gets worse.
