Heavy periods

 

How do I know mine is heavy?

 

Heavy periods include periods in which a woman has...

 

  • heavy bleeding in which she might bleed through sanitary products every hour for at least a few hours
  • a prolonged period lasting longer than 7 days

 

 

This condition can also be named Menorrhagia or hypermenorrhea. Heavy periods are common amongst young women who aren't ovulating regularly, as well as women who are coming close to menopause or the end of their childbearing years (years in which she has a period).

 

 

Why is my period heavy?

 

There are many things that can cause a heavy period including:

  • disfunction of the ovaries
  • uterine fibroids
  • polyps
  • adenomyosis
  • pregnancy complications
  • cancer
  • clotting

 

PLUS other medical issues associated to other organs in the body. If you're worried about your period, you doctor can carry out a number of tests to determine why you might have heavy periods and treat it accordingly.
