Miscarriage
Talk to me.
Miscarriage, also called pregnancy loss, occurs when a woman becomes no longer pregnant up to 20 weeks from when the woman first became pregnant from natural causes.
The most common type of miscarriage is early on in the pregnancy within the first trimester, or the first three months.
How do I know if I had a miscarriage?
Miscarriage is diagnosed by comparing the initial ultrasound from when pregnancy was detected to a later ultrasound that shows no pregnancy or the loss of a heart beat that was previously there.
Detection of pregnancy is extremely reliant on the person conducting the ultrasound (sonographer), the way in which the ultrasound is taken (including through the vagina) and the quality of the equipment. Because of this it's important to be confident in each criteria and get more than one opinion or re-check the results.
